The countdown has begun to release Indra Kumar’s comedy caper, Thank God, starring Sidharth Malhotra, Ajay Devgn, and Rakul Preet Singh. The censor board just cleared the Diwali 2022 release as U/A, with a permitted run-time of 2 hours, 1 minute, and 34 seconds (121 minutes, 34 seconds). The team behind the movie, which is released by Anil Thadani’s AA Films, has chosen a novel tactic by keeping the cost under check.

On approximately 2500 screens nationwide, Thank God is receiving a wide release. This number is dynamic and will alter daily until Monday, depending on how well advance reservations are received. Due to its brief running length, the movie will receive a high number of showings both on single screens and at multiplexes. The team has pursued an open strategy of show-sharing with rivals, yet it has sufficient support to perform and stand-alone despite this. Pre-sales for Thank God began on Thursday, but the reception hasn’t been all that positive.

The three national theatre chains PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis had sold about 3800 seats to Thank God as of Saturday at 5 p.m. The goal for Thank God is to sell 35,000 to 40,000 tickets on the day of the film’s release, which would put it in the same ballpark as Raksha Bandhan (34,000), Samrat Prithviraj (41,000), and Shamshera (46,000) by Monday night. With this advance, the movie will try to get significant on-the-spot bookings and get off to a double-digit start. TThank God’s walk-in audience will increase due to the holiday season, and the comedy genre will also increase sales in places like Gujarat, Rajasthan, CP, and CI. Due to the pre-Diwali aspect, the number of reservations has fallen short of expectations; thus, Thank God has to pick up steam by Sunday night in order to get things moving for the commencement on Tuesday.

Because Ajay Devgn isn’t the main character and it’s not a cameo, movies like Thank God are extremely challenging to sell. In the West, Ajay Devgn’s role in the movie Thank God (or Salman Khan’s in Antim, Akshay Kumar’s in Atrangi Re, Shah Rukh Khan’s in Dear Zindagi, and Aamir Khan’s in Secret Superstar) would be considered a supporting role; nevertheless, in India, such labels are frequently interpreted negatively.
